So this weekend I went to a real cultural festival at a real school. I feel as if my school is not a real school, because the children are deprived of so many of the seminal experiences that make up secondary education in Japan. Anyway, I went to Koshigaya Higasi high school's cultural festival, and had a lot of fun. Higashi is a public high school that is near my house, and has a lot of my old students in it. So I was always meeting someone that I knew or that knew me from years ago. And there were lots of different activities and people running around, and no teachers at all. The kids were just running free, although nothing bad happened. They were cooking potatoes and running haunted houses and playing concerts and nothing blew up or anything. There was a wide variety of activities, and all the kids made their money back. I spent about an hour selling potatoes, even though I don't really like potatoes and hadn't eaten any. I kept telling potential customers that I heard they were good and stuff like that, which cracked people up because it's not normal to say stuff like that when you are trying to sell something. But, we sold a lot of potatoes.

After that, I went bowling with some high school kids from the festival. I haven't been bowling in a year or two, except on the Wii, so I did really badly. But I still managed to beat the kids. It was cool because none of them were ever actually my students, so I didn't have to worry that I might get fired for hanging out with them or something, like I would for hanging out with students from my own school.
