I can't believe it's June already. Time seems to fly by so quickly sometimes. But from the way it's getting all hot and muggy outside, it's hard to miss the fact that summer is here for real. In a few weeks it will be the rainy season, but I'll save complaining about that for when it actually comes. For now, I guess I should stick to complaining about how hot it is.

Last week, we had midterm tests, only two months from the beginning of the school year. That's got to be part of what's making me feel like time is moving so fast. Overall, I think that my kids didn't do nearly as well as I expected. While last year my class was mostly average in terms of English ability, this year my class has a lot more of the highest level kids in it, but it also has more of the worst. I expected it to come out about the same, but in fact the high-level kids got lower-than-expected scores. I'm pretty sure that it's because all the delinquents won't shut up in class, and they're ruining it for everyone. I've always felt compelled to try to help the lowest kids along, but I think that I am going to have to stop doing that, and put more effort into challenging the higher level students. Some of the lower level kids are trying really hard and just aren't smart, but most of them are just kindof jackasses.
